Gum Acacia, also referred to as Gum Arabic and Acacia is the hardened sap of theacacia tree (variety senegal and seyal). It is the oldest and the most important commercial water-soluble gum in use today. Nearly all of the world’s output of gum acacia is obtained from the sub-Sahara region of Africa that extends from Senegal on the west coast of Africa to Sudan on the red sea. Within this region, the major producing countries are Sudan, Chad and Nigeria.
